License Renewal

License Renewal Requirements

You must:

• Have a current copy of the Michigan Residential Code. It can be purchased here.
• Complete the required continuing competency class or equivalent.
• Have an account with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs online renewal portal.

Renewing Your License

• All Residential Builders and M&A Contractors must renew their licenses online through LARA's online Accela portal.
• Renewals cannot be made prior to 90 days from your license expiration.
• You can verify your license issuance date by visiting aca-prod.accela.com/lara/
• If you already have an Accela account connected to your license, skip to step three.

Step 1: Sign Up for an Accela Account

• Go to aca-prod.accela.com/lara/
• Click the “Register for an Account” link between the announcement and Login links.
• Complete the Login Information form.
• Choose the Contact Type “Individual” in your Contact Details.
• You should receive a notice saying “Contact added successfully”.
• If needed, hover over the Help link at the top of the main webpage, click on “Create an Account” and follow the instructions.

Step 2: Link Your Accela Account to Your License

• Click “Link Existing License” at top of main webpage.
• If needed, hover over the Help link at the top of the webpage and click on “Renew a License”. Instructions for linking a license can be found there.

Step 3: Renew Your License

• Log into your LARA Accela account.
• Hover over Search at the top of the webpage then click on My Records.
• Click Renew Application next to your license information.
• Click Continue Application to add your renewal to the cart.
• Click Checkout to process payment.

If needed, hover over the Help link at the top of the webpage and click on “Renew a License”.
